Hello friends! Lately Iāve been talking a lot about the MILLENNIUM š and today I want to continue that discussion by eliminating one possible āmillennialā view from the table. The belief that Jesus will return before or pre his millennial kingdom is known as "premillennial." And here's why I don't buy into it:
First the premillennial view has death AFTER the second coming of Jesus, which we all know will coincide with 1) the resurrection of the dead and 2). the final judgment at the end of history. In other words, the premillennial view has death AFTER death has been abolished. And as we all can tell, this contradicts itself.
Secondly, the premillennial view also has a final rebellion against Jesus AFTER his bodily return, which, when you think about, it makes no sense either. Just stop and reflect on that for a moment: Can you imagine EITHER of these two things taking place after Jesus' bodily return and presence on the earth? I can't either š±
Listen to the way Paul explains Jesus' second coming in 1 Thessalonians 4:16, "For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a loud command with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first ā¦ so we will be with the Lord forever." Based on what Paul says here it would seem that all of these components happen SIMULTANEOUSLY at the very end of history.
Taking things a step further, Paul expresses later in his first letter to the Corinthians "For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive [or resurrected] but each in turn: Christ, then when he comes, those who belong to him. Then the end will come when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion authority and power. For he must reign [in other words he is currently reigning NOW in his Millennial Kingdom] until he has put all his enemies under his feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death."
As opposed to the premillennial view, Paul and the other Apostles seemed to have the understanding that Jesus is reigning NOW and that the last enemy he will conquer "at the end" is DEATH š, meaning: When he resurrects the dead, there will be no more death. š¤Æ
On top of that, how will Satan mount one final rebellion when Jesus has totally defeated him along with every other enemy? Sure doesn't make much sense to me? But what are your thoughts? Think on it friends and answer these questions:
Will the dead be raised when Jesus returns?
Could the devil recruit an army to fight against Jesus after his return like the premillennialists teach?
But most importantly: will you spend an eternity with Jesus or apart from him after your resurrection?
