āDo I not hate those who HATE you, Lord, and abhor those who are in rebellion against you? I have nothing but HATRED for them; I count them my ENEMIES.ā Psalm 139:21-22
Ā
Good morning, friends and WHOA š³Ā have I got an interesting topic for you today: ANGER! Before I begin, PLEASE donāt look at me like that ā¦. common, admit it ā¦ Youāve made the angry face before and that very face has left me wondering WHAT we do with anger as Christians??
Ā
Iām sure you know how Jesus overturned the tables in the Temple in a righteous RAGE and David famously said in the Psalms that he HATES his enemies š±
Ā
What do we make of things like this and does it contradict other Biblical commands, like, you know, the one that says we should āLOVEā our enemies? š§
Ā
What exactly is this āRIGHTEOUSā anger (if, indeed we can call it that)? First and foremost, it should be noted that anger is an EMOTION, meaning itās usually neither right nor wrong. Ungodly anger leads to things like bitterness and murder. Righteous anger, on the other hand, is when we get angry at things like injustice, deception, ungodliness, manipulation, abortion and other evils of our day. I think this is the emotion David and Jesus spoke out of in the Bible.
Ā
Yet, there is the fact that Jesus (and probably David) sometimes put FEET š£Ā Ā to their inner fire. In other words, anger spilled into ACTION when Jesus cleared the temple with a whip. Well, Paul ads some clarity when he says to āBe angry and sin notā (Ephesians 4:26).
Ā
So, if youāre feeling ANGRY when you look at the broken world around you, thatās good! Just make sure youāre walking in the LOVE and Gdās character when you decide to put feet to your feelings, otherwise you may be guilty of a greater sin! I hope that helps you this week friends while youāre pursuing Godās path with BOLDNESS!
