āFor in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day.ā Exodus 20:11
Ā
Hey friends! I know youāve heard it before. IN FACT, maybe you believe it. What Iām talking about are OLD EARTH theories and using the Bible to prove them.
Ā
Along those lines Iād like to ask you a question today: What do you think the ORIGINAL AUDIENCE believed about our opening Scripture. Well? Whatās your take? š¤Ā
Ā
For a deep dive into the issue check out my new video linked š
Ā
The reason itās important is that many today take subtly different young earth theories about the meaning of Genesis 1 (like Saint Augustineās belief in an instantaneous creation) to suggest that a HIGHLY metaphorical approach that includes EVOLUTION and BILLIONS of years is permissible, but are we being intellectually honest when we do this?
Ā
I think the answer to this question is a resounding āNOā and hereās why ā¦. taking the ORIGINAL CONTEXT and AUDENCE into consideration is ESSENTIAL when attempting to determine TRUTH for today.
Ā
So how did those original Hebrews take Genesis one? Well, they patterned their work week after Godās ACTIVITY. Seems like they took it pretty literally to me. Unfortunately, this issue is something thatās often disregarded even by some like the great Augustine who seemed to have a problem with LIGHT existing BEFORE the sun and stars.
Ā
Yet the Apostle John sees no problem with this as he notes a future Jerusalem in Revelation 21 with NO SUN and only the LAMB to give it light!
Ā
Look Iām not trying to offend anyone. I simply want to suggest that I think itās absurd to suggest that we can use the BIBLE to suggest an Old Earth. What are your thoughts on it? š¤
Ā
Application:
What would the implications of a literal six-day creation and literal global flood mean for our culture?
